Cyprus certified translations: registered language pairs and document routes
Cyprus’s statutory sworn-translation system has a defined registration and language-pair scope. Direct translation between two foreign languages must be described accurately.
The statutory system and its language pairs
Since 1 July 2019, the Cyprus system operates through registered sworn translators under Law 45(I)/2019. The Press and Information Office defines certified translations as foreign-language–Greek or foreign-language–Turkish translations in either direction, and Greek–Turkish translations. Its guidance illustrates a foreign-to-foreign certified route through Greek. This matters when a request is described simply as an ‘English certified translation’.

Verify registration for the actual pair
The official register supplies the registered translator’s details and language scope. Check the pair needed for the document rather than the general list of languages a business may advertise. A Polish sworn authorisation for Ukrainian is a different registration from admission to the Cyprus register.
Ask for the right original from the issuing authority
The PIO recommends obtaining a Cyprus-issued certificate in Greek when it is to be translated directly into another language under the local system. This can prevent a foreign-language original from creating an additional intermediate translation. Ask the issuing authority which original version is available before commissioning the translation, particularly for civil-status certificates intended for use abroad.

Company documents have their own filing procedure
The Registrar of Companies publishes a procedure for creating a translations file for memorandum and articles of association. Its Greek-to-English route allows a translator’s court affidavit or, alternatively, certification by a Cyprus sworn translator. That is a specific company-register procedure. It should be assessed separately from an immigration, civil-status or general court-document request.

Professional translation for business and case preparation
An English rendering of a contract, correspondence, company record or supporting document may be commissioned for review by a lawyer or business without being described as a Cyprus statutory sworn translation. Identify the actual recipient and purpose. For a bilingual contract file, confirm the version being negotiated, retain clause numbering and list the annexes included in the scope.
Prepare a complete quotation file
Send a readable document with all attachments, specify the source and target language, and provide the receiving organisation’s wording. For clients in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos or Paralimni, remote assessment can establish the translation work required from the Kraków office. Any Cyprus registry certification should be assigned through the appropriate registered route.
