English translations for Irish recipients

Polish, Ukrainian and Russian records can be translated into English for an Irish application, legal file or business transaction. English documents can also be translated into the requested language for a client or recipient abroad. State the exact language direction and the organisation receiving the document when asking for a quotation.

The office assesses complete documents, including reverse pages, handwritten entries, seals and annexes. For a set of related records, provide the spellings of names used in the current passport or application and keep the original document order.

Certified translations for immigration and citizenship

Immigration Service Delivery’s certification guidance asks for a signed and dated translation, a printed name, and the certifier’s occupation, address and telephone number. The confirmation identifies the translation as a true rendering of the original seen. Supply the application instructions with the source document so the required statement and delivery format can be agreed.

Employment and business-visa document files

The published employment-visa instructions require a full certified translation where a supporting document is outside English or Irish. The short-stay business-visa instructions also call for the original document and its certified translation. Employment records, qualification evidence and commercial correspondence should retain dates, amounts, issuer details and attachments across the translated file.

Civil-status certificates and multilingual forms

For eligible EU public records, a multilingual standard form can accompany the original certificate as a translation aid. Ireland’s General Register Office explains how to request a form with its certificates for use in another EU member state. Include an existing form when sending a birth, marriage, civil-partnership or death record for assessment; its coverage may change the translation work required.

Translations for solicitors and court proceedings

Court commissions are agreed against the instructing solicitor’s document schedule and filing requirements. Under the Superior Courts’ Order 40, a foreign-language affidavit requires translation by a suitably qualified translator and a translator’s affidavit setting out qualifications and confirming accuracy. The source affidavit and original translation are included in the prescribed filing.

For the High Court’s Asylum, Immigration and Citizenship List, Practice Direction HC140 has applied since 3 June 2026. Its translation requirements should accompany the instruction where a foreign-language affidavit is relied upon. Provide the final source version, exhibit references and the solicitor’s arrangements for any required oath or affidavit.
